Following on, you are warmly invited to an art and science event hosted by the IEU starting from 6pm, details here: Creative Reactions: art meets science

The SEGEG meeting will be held in Bristol at the Watershed cinema. This was chosen for two reasons:

1) It is located on the harmourside right in the city centre so a bit more accessible than most of the university buildings. If you arrive in Bristol by train you can actually take a very pleasant ferry trip from train station to the harnbourside. Alternatively there are taxis, buses or it's just a short walk.

2) It's a really nice cinema =]

While you are here...

Weather permitting, some of our department will be going for a walk (perhaps through Leigh woods, pictured above) on the morning of Saturday 25th May. As the SEGEG meetings are an opportunity for networking and making friends, we'd be delighted to invite you along, just sign up so that we have an idea of numbers. Family etc welcome.

Walk details

The weather forecast looks ~reasonable for Saturday morning, so we'll go ahead with the plan to take a walk around Leigh Woods. It's an accessible and attractive National Trust nature reserve outside of the city, very peaceful, has some lovely views and interesting Iron Age archaeological remains. We'll start at the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Departure time: 9.30am

Meeting location: Clifton Suspension Bridge, on the city side at this location: https://www.google.com/maps?q=51.4551589,-2.6266246&hl=en-GB&gl=uk&shorturl=1. As you approach the bridge there is a grassy area with some trees etc on the left hand side of the road. We'll all meet there before setting off together.

Walk duration: 1.5 - 2 hours

Total distance: About 3 miles, on woodland paths, pretty flat the whole way. This is an easy walk through the woods, not a strenuous hike =]

What to bring: Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, water, snacks, coffee etc. Family, kids, dogs welcome. If the forecast is to rain then be prepared for that =]

Walking route: We'll walk over the bridge and then to the entrance of Leigh Woods on North Road https://www.google.com/maps/place/51%C2%B027'15.4%22N+2%C2%B038'30.1%22W/@51.4542706,-2.643895,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d51.4542706!4d-2.6417063?hl=en-GB. Here we'll follow the Purple trail around the nature reserve https://nt.global.ssl.fastly.net/documents/maps/1431729742984-leigh-woods.pdf. It is a circular route so we will finish at the entrance to Leigh Woods

Getting back: Either walk back or get a bus from close to the entrance of Leigh Woods. The bus (X3 or X4) goes every 15 minutes into the city, takes about 10-15 minutes and costs £2.50. You can get the bus from here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/North+Road/@51.4535181,-2.6418041,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x48718da7d65f36f3:0xb8ca3524aa458591!8m2!3d51.453892!4d-2.6425003?hl=en-GB

If there are any problems: Give Gib a call on 07930951876

As an alternative: You could meet us en route at the Leigh Woods entrance at ~9.55am.

If you are feeling energetic: Then you could take part in the Ashton Court Parkrun at 9am before hand, which is close by to Leigh Woods https://www.parkrun.org.uk/ashton-court/
