Event description

Description

A benefit dinner on Aug. 9 will raise money for the Davis Families Together Project and the San Francisco-based incubator kitchen La Cocina. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the UU Church located at 27074 Patwin Road, Davis and will include speakers from the Families Together Project and La Cocina, a video and raffle prizes.

The nonprofit Families Together Project supports two refugee families relocated to Davis while they await asylum proceedings. La Cocina is a nonprofit working to solve problems of equity in business ownership for women, immigrants, low-income individuals and people of color.

La Cocina entrepreneurs attending the event are:

  • Rosa Martinez from Origen

  • Nite Yun from Nyum Bai

  • Dilsa Lugo from Los Cilantros

The menu will be selected from recipes in the recently published book, “We are La Cocina, Recipes in Pursuit of the American Dream.”

Individual tickets at $67 include dinner, a drink and copy of the cookbook. Couples (or two friends) pay $117 and get one cookbook, children ages 10-17 are $37 but do not get a cookbook. Children under 10 are free.

We hope you will join us in this multi-faith activity to support local refugees and a growing program to help immigrant food entrepreneurs formalize and grow their businesses.

Hosted by justice ministries at the Episcopal Church of St. Martin, Davis United Methodist Church and Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis.
