SEED2019 - Scientific Ecosystem Experimentation with Decentralization

Co-create the future of science and blockchain technology

Partner: ETH Library Lab

Discover the potential of blockchain in science

Intersecting blockchain and science has a great potential for incentivizing collaboration and openness in science, finding new ways of funding research projects, and empowering the scientific community.

This means that this technology can revolutionize more than just the financial system.

Blockchain school

Learn the basics of the blockchain technology, as well as the peer-to-peer technology beyond blockchain. Get introduced to the global landscape of science. Immerse yourself in the scientific and industrial worlds, and where they intersect.

Interdisciplinary collaboration

Meet industry experts, lawyers, scientists, librarians, technologists from all around the world. Co-create the future of blockchain and other peer-to-peer technologies with design thinking methodology.  SEED is not just about talking, it’s about building. Develop ideas, which have direct impact on the future of the knowledge of mankind, and bring them to life after SEED.

We turn your idea into code

SEED is just the beginning - we'll turn the best idea into open source code.. Leave SEED with the right background and tools to transfer what you’ve learnt into your own project. Imagine developing advanced ideas in your own field and testing them in your own environment!

Tickets to SEED2019 include access to:

1. SEED SYMPOSIUM (25-26th of February, 2019)
Blockchain education, scientific ecosystem, overview by interdisciplinary keynotes in law, technology, and economics, introduction to decentralized technologies beyond blockchain.

2. SEED Think Tank (27-28th of February, 2019)

Applying newly learnt material and design thinking to an immersive use case identification for decentralized applications in collaborative research. Pitching ideas on stage.

*All tickets include coffee breaks & lunches

On top of the blockchain school, which covers the topics of cryptography, smart contracts, decentralized technologies, autonomous organizations and tokens, SEED will also feature academic keynotes covering the following topics:

  • economics of science (prof. Paula Stephan, Georgia State University)

  • research funding (dr. Michael Hill, Swiss National Science Foundation)

  • future of research assessment (Lambert Heller, TIB Hannover)

  • blockchain-secured microcontributions (prof. Lawrence Rajendran, King’s College London)
