Seed To Harvest To Table Series

Lettuce

The Seed to Harvest to Table Series is a hands on approach, training class that allows attendees to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours to experience a hidden local urban farm. Learn the aspects of seeding, growing, maintaining, harvesting and preparing classic salads and their dressing for the table.

Each class is divided into two "hands on" sections:

  • The first section is "in the dirt"
  • The 2nd section is "in the kitchen"

This month's workshop is dedicated to "LETTUCE".

"In The Dirt" section attendees will learn the fundamentals of sowing lettuce from seed, planting from seedlings, harvesting for maximum yields for freshness and taste even in a small space. Instructors: UC Certified Master Gardeners, Farmer Andy Vaughan, Owner of CaliFarmer (www.califarmer.com & Instgram @cali_farmer) and by Adam Romick, Co-Owner of Organic Harvest Gardens (www.organicharvestgardens.com & Instagram @OrganicHarvestGrdns).

"In The Kitchen" Section attendees will learn how to take what they have harvested from the farm and make 5 classic salads and appropriate dressings: Mesclun Mix, Kale Caeser, Italian Chopped, Classic Nicoise, and the Signature Blood Orange Salad from TASTE wine-beer-kitchen Restaurant in Belmont Shores, Long Beach. Chef Instructors: Chef Brad Neumann of TASTE wine-beer-kitchen (www.taste-wbk.com & Instgram @taste_lb, who has farm plots at the farm and byCo-Owner UC Master Gardener, Chef/Farmer Rod Dodd of Organic Harvest Gardens (www.organicharvestgardens.com & Instagram @OrganicHarvestGrdns)

At class end, enjoy a farm to table meal with the wonderful prepared classic salads, rustic artisan breads by Chef Harmony of Long Beach Beer Lab (www.lbbeer.com & Instagram @lbbeer) and sip California wines under the Long Beach Sun.

Each attendee will receive a container planter with the lettuce they have planted and a notebook with lessons and recipes. Looking forward to seeing you at this one of a kind, amazing event. Stay tuned for more classes in the series throughout the spring and summer months.
