Event description

Scenario A: Your organization receives a "no match" letter from the US Social Security Administration ordering your human resources department to conduct an investigation into the social security statuses of your employees.

Scenario B: Your organization hires a new CEO from Italy where visa application is selected for "administrative processing", delaying his anticipated start date for months or longer.

These are among the realities of the new normal that American non-profits are now facing. The stable and predictable stream of work-visa issuance to individuals brought to the United States for their talent and acumen is being upended. Non-profits in particular are increasingly encountering hurdles not seen since the pre-Obama years.

Bond, Schoeneck & King attorney Joanna Silver has been navigating non-profits and academic universities for more than 20 years through the legal issues surrounding visa procurement for unique talent and knowledge.

On May 13, 2020, she will be conducting a training for non-profit executives and human resource officers on current best practices in securing non-immigrant talent and workers through the visa vehicle. She will present a roadmap for a number of popular visas and discuss the potential roadblocks that may crop up, how to skirt them or comply with them.

Key Takeaways:

  • Understanding of the popular options available for hiring non-immigrant workers, including work authorization visas and Form I-9 compliance.
  • Understanding of Social Security Administration "no-match" letters, why has there been an recent uptick in them and how to comply.
  • Understanding of the most frequently used classes: when you can petition and cannot petition.
  • Understanding of immigration fees.

This workshop will be presented by Joanna Silver Member, Bond, Schoenck & King PLLC
