Use your existing connections to get more grants from foundations.

Many board members are uncomfortable when asked to contact their friends and professional colleagues for financial support even though they know that the very existence of their organization and the vital programs it delivers depend on a steady flow of cash from donors.

This webinar provides you with tools to engage your board members and get them to be enthusiastic, persuasive and effective in opening doors with foundaions and corporations. We'll show you how to discover, build and nurture your board's connections and turn them into the money you need to deliver your much needed programs.

You will learn:

  • The roles board members can play to: introduce your organization to potential funders because funders like to fund people they know; convey your organization's trustworthiness and credibility because funders need to have confidence that their gift will have the maximum impact.
  • Where to get information about board member connections to funders, so that you can leverage their network of connections to find the funders most likely to fund you. It is who you know and who THEY know. You will be amazed at how you can find a connection to almost anyone.
  • How to rate the strength of your connections to a funder in determining whether to contact them. We'll show you how to incorporate board member connections into prospect rating systems. This will save time and money by identifying the best prospective funders to approach first and increase your funding success.
  • What to tell board members to say when talking to their connections so they sound confident and at ease while persuading funders in a compelling way to support your cause.

Highlights and outcomes:

Research proves the benefits to organizations with board members who actively fundraise. This webinar incorporates results from a recent study conducted by the Nonprofit Research Collaborative. Over 1,700 NPO's in the US and Canada were surveyed. The study conclusively found that organizations that actively engage their board members in fundraising and exploit their connections are much more likely to reach their fundraising goals.

You will leave this webinar with:

  • A checklist of what items to cover when asking board members to identify people they know at foundations and corporations, and how to uncover the information by taking advantage of online resources and board member self-reports of their contacts.
  • Key concepts of how to keep track of your contacts, and manage the funder cultivation process. We'll tell you what essential details you need to capture so that board members, staff, and others involved in the process stay coordinated, and know what everyone else is doing, has done, and will do.
  • Scripts to share with board members to help them comfortably connect with funders on behalf of your project or program, so they will be more confident and convincing to help you raise the money you need.
  • Key findings from extensive research and experience to use to convince your board members of the importance of building strong relationships with institutional donors, a step many have never before considered part of their role.

This webinar, co-presented by fundraising experts Shadi Mogadime and Melissa Brown, will benefit any nonprofit staff members involved in fundraising and in board relations.
