About this event

The Secret Garden is an oasis for those looking to escape, for an evening. Whether it’s a quick reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day monotony, or maybe a quick trip to a different tourist destination in a time when traveling isn’t possible - The Secret Garden is a food and beverage showcase brought to you by ten guest chefs in six events over twelve weeks in a pop-up dinner series format, turning our chef’s visions into a reality.

EVENT #2: "A Tribute to Nonna Maria" with Chef Michael Dolente

Chef Michael Dolente's passion for food and hospitality was inspired at a young age by his Nonna. He began his career in local kitchens such as The Cellar (Bedford), The Henry House and The Delta (Halifax). After moving to Toronto in 2012 Michael worked as the Sous Chef at The Thompson Hotel and later took over as the Banqueting & Events Chef at Shangri-La Hotel where he remained for four years.

Michael returned home to Nova Scotia in 2017 and spent three years in The Carleton kitchen. During this time Michael and his team revamped the food program there and earned silver medals at the Canadian Culinary Championships (Canada's Great Kitchen Party) two years in a row.

Maria's Pantry is Michael's tribute to his Nonna Maria. Michael's family immigrated to Halifax in 1960 from the Abruzzo region of Italy, bringing with them strong culinary traditions and a passion for cooking high quality food. He is bringing those fresh homemade Italian classics made with high quality ingredients and a lot of love to this installment of the Secret Garden.

Ticket Includes: 6 courses, a welcome cocktail, and gratuity.
