Event description

Description

The ‘Whale Guitar” is travelling to the Newport Art Museum for Second Saturday! Bring all those artful, creative kids, musicians, artists, and whale lovers, too! The Whale Guitar was created by musician and activist Jen Long, to raise awareness of the plight of whales, and raise funds to protect them and their ocean home. Inspired by Herman Melville's great book "The Whale" (Moby Dick), the Whale Guitar is a sonic work of art that sings for whales in the hands of whale-loving guitarists! Through this experience she seeks to inspire support for Ocean Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to the conservation of whales and their marine environment. Appropriate since Ocean Alliance scientists are the ones that discovered whales sing!

Come hear more about the plight of whales and see this one-of-a-kind, American crafted, Melville-inspired, Whale Guitar up close!

“This is a piece of American craft and folk art, but it is an instrument, too — it sounds and feels good, people are surprised,” Long said.

Each Second Saturday activity is free with paid Museum admission.
