The Second Annual Conference on Native American Nutrition (September 18-20, 2017) brings together tribal officials, researchers, practitioners, and others to discuss the current state of Indigenous and academic scientific knowledge about Native nutrition and food science, and identify new areas of work.

The registration fee covers attendance at all sessions and most meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner on September 18 and breakfast and lunch on September 19 and 20. 

The conference is co-sponsored by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and the University of Minnesota’s Healthy Food, Healthy Lives Institute


A block of hotel rooms at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel has been reserved for conference attendees. Rooms will be available for $129 per night until September 6. Guests can make their reservations by calling 1-800-262-7799 and identifying yourself as a participant in the Native American Nutrition Conference event. Mystic Lake Casino Hotel is 25 miles from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.

Due to significant interest from conference attendees, we are offering affordable transportation between the Minneapolis/Saint Paul Airport and Mystic Lake Casino Hotel. Shuttles will run from the airport to the venue every half hour on Sunday, September 17, between 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Following the conference, shuttles will run from the venue to the airport hourly on Wednesday, September 20, between 2:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Shuttles will cost $22 each way, which is a considerable discount from taking a taxi. Book a shuttle.


We are seeking Native arts, crafts and food vendors who are interested in having a booth at the conference. Applications will be accepted as space allows. Download an application form.
