OUR PURSPOSE

SeaWords Bahamas is a project of Creative Nassau (CN), the organization, which secured and maintains Nassau’s membership, as a Creative City of Craft & Folk Art, in the global UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The Festival is dedicated to promoting and celebrating writing as a fabulous, essential art form, profession and a multi-billion-dollar creative industry with the power to bring valuable economic diversification and benefits.

SEAWORD BAHAMAS ALIV: OPEN TO THE GLOBE

We welcome lovers of literature, published writers, aspiring writers, commercial writers, scriptwriters, entrepreneurial writers—All who appreciate the power of words, submerge in their healing stream and harness their power.

SEAWORDS HIGHLIGHTS

9 November: The opening reception of the Festival will feature readings by a bevy of recognized and emerging Bahamian poets and authors, including Marion Bethel, Patricia Glinton-Meicholas, Helen Klonaris, Lelawattee Manoo-Rahming, Eric Rose, Thea Rutherford, Zemi Stewart, Ide Thompson and Patrice Francis. Highlighting the scheduled performances of literary works will be Dame Carol Ann Duffy

10 November: Grand Performance: Carol Ann Duffy, Britain’s Poet Laureate since 2009 and the first woman to be so named in the four centuries since the title was created.

11 November: Grand Closing Party – a fabulous display of Bahamian culture, food, music and festival arts

Performance events are included as a benefit to those registering for the full Festival package; the general public may purchase tickets locally.

The organizers reserve the right to make changes to the event schedule as necessary.

SEAWORDS WORKSHOPS

At the core of SeaWords Bahamas ALIV are how-to workshops on writing poetry, fiction and non-fiction, such as history and memoir. Also highlighted will be commercial writing: television shows & ads, writing and editing for the media, playwriting & staging, film script development, the book’s journey from concept to publication, publishing and intellectual property law.


WORKSHOP FACILITATORS

Workshop facilitators are seasoned, recognized artists and professionals. SeaWords has secured the participation of esteemed attorney, jurist and playwright, Jeanne Thompson; Diane Gedymin and Dr Adair White Johnson, both veterans of the publishing industry, who have published best sellers; Erica Wells Cox, newspaper and magazine editor; Michelle Malcolm, veteran broadcaster and general manager of the new ILTV; Suzette Parker, writer and producer of The Bahamas’ only live morning TV show Bahamas@Sunrise and The Financial Voice, a televised forum; award-winning filmmaker Kareem Mortimer, director of the lauded “Cargo”; University of The Bahamas professors Christopher Curry, Ph.D. and Nicolette Bethel, Ph.D., and attorney Erica Pople-Ferreira, Managing Partner, Ferreira & Co. Others experienced in the areas they will be representing.

What's the refund policy?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please bring a printed version of your ticket with you. We will also accept copies of your tickets on your cellphone.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

No, your registration fee is not transferrable.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

The name of ticket holder must match their identification. This will be checked at time of registration on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 6:30pm.
