Event description

Description

Mandatory reports are often made because helping professionals believe they “have to” make a report, not because they believe the report will result in greater safety or stability. These reports can have devastating consequences for domestic violence survivors’ ability to seek help.

The conversation is growing. The New York Times’ recent piece “Foster Care as Punishment: The New Reality of Jane Crow” echoes the NW Network’s own study “There’s No One I Can Trust” conducted in partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline. The upshot: mandatory reporting is steeped in racial and gender bias and it is hurting survivors.

Please join us to learn about current mandatory practices and to re-envision how help-seeking could be encouraged and celebrated. This training is being offered on Thursday August 31, 2017 from 1pm-4pm.
