Description

McKinney-Vento (MKV) Homeless Awareness Training: Identifying and Serving Families & Youth living in Transition

This training is intended to provide District personnel with information about the McKinney-Vento Act in order to better coordinate homeless education support services for students, unaccompanied youth and families living in transition. The MKV training will cover changes to the McKinney-Vento Law, focus on the duties of the District Liaison and review the definition of homelessness, signs of homelessness, and the impact of homelessness on students.

Seattle School District is mandated by law to provide homeless awareness training and it is highly recommend that administrators, MKV building points of contact, teachers, counselors, nurses, secretaries, lunchroom staff, paraprofessionals, and central office departments register to participate. We will discuss steps that should be taken to connect students with the District McKinney-Vento Program to support students experiencing homelessness in Seattle Public Schools. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to support students and youth experiencing homelessness in the district.

This training is also open to interested community members.
