About this event

When: Second Tuesday of every month, 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Where: Seattle Maritime Academy, 4455 Shilshole Avenue

Long before Seattle was a tech town, it was a maritime town. In fact, it still is.

In a city powered by tech companies, is there still a demand for maritime workers? Absolutely! In fact, Seattle's maritime industry is currently experiencing a serious shortage of qualified mariners.

That's where Seattle Maritime Academy comes in. Our year-long, US Coast Guard-approved training programs prepare men and women from all walks of life for successful careers in the maritime workforce. Upon completion, students will earn a rating of either Able Bodied Seaman (AB) or Qualified Member of the Engineering Department (QMED). These are the entry-level credentials needed to work on vessels ranging from tugboats to tankers, ferries to fishing boats.

This free 90-minute event will include:

  • an overview of the maritime industry
  • how a vessel's workforce is organized, by department and rank
  • information about Seattle Maritime Academy's two Marine Technology certificate programs
  • a tour of our waterfront campus
  • how to apply to Seattle Maritime Academy
  • how to obtain industry-required credentials
  • Question & Answer Session

Hope to see you soon!
