Description

Important Update: Remote access for both viewing and presenting is now available. Audio will be via the computer or telephone. International access numbers are available.

Two Seasonal Adjustment Practitioners Workshops have been held in Washington, D.C. at the Bureau of Labor Statistics Janet Norwood Conference and Training Center: first in the fall of 2016 and then in the spring of 2018. They were a great experience for attendees and presenters, and planning has begun to hold another workshop.

We have a date and location for the next workshop: Wednesday, November 20, 2019, again at the Bureau of Labor Statistics Janet Norwood Conference and Training Center. The American Statistical Association’s Business and Economics Statistics Section, Government Statistics Section, and the Washington Statistical Society provide support for the conference.

The morning will feature Professor Jonathan Wright, Department of Economics, Johns Hopkins University, and possible discussants. We are now soliciting abstracts for morning and afternoon contributed sessions of the workshop. Papers may cover any subject relating to seasonal adjustment and related time series methodology or the process of seasonal adjustment and time series estimation at a statistical agency.

We are particularly interested in talks that share experiences in producing seasonal adjustments, such as

  • give details of interesting problems and possible solutions;

  • discuss best practices in seasonal adjustment, trend estimation, time series modeling, and benchmarking/reconciliation;

  • share lessons learned, tips, and shortcuts;

  • present applied research in the practice of time series estimation.

The abstracts should be less than 100 words in length for a presentation of about 15-20 minutes. Some important dates are below:

Abstract Submissions Due: November 1, 2019 to esmd.seasonal.workshop@census.gov

We are committed in making this workshop a development opportunity for newer employees with seasonal adjustment responsibilities as well as those who are more experienced.

We look forward to your submission. Please feel free to share this with others in your organization who would be interested in participating in this workshop.
