The next Members meeting of the San Diego Museum Council is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1, and will begin at 3 pm with a Professional Development topic:
Pop Culture and Museum Programming
In order to offer timely and relevant programming, institutions have increasingly been integrating pop culture into their programs and events. Meanwhile, the public’s interest in superheroes, comic culture, nerd nights, and more, continues to rise. Come hear from organizations and influencers in the pop culture community as well as from museums that have developed innovative, engaging programming with popular culture references. Learn more about the local resources you can tap into as you develop your own programming. As you arrive, enjoy a live demonstration of eskrima, the national sport and martial art of the Philippines, which is used as a reference in many comics.
- Eddie Ibrahim, director of programming at Comic-Con International
- Andrea Decker, executive assistant at the Fleet Science Center
- Judith Oishei, founder of Feminist Comic Book Club and music director at the La Jolla Athenaeum
Please share this invitation with museum program and event staff and encourage them to RSVP and attend.
Following the panel will be a brief business meeting that will include voting on the membership application from the San Diego Art Institute, call for nominations for SDMC FY18 board positions, information and sign up for the Big Exchange in May and more.
