About the So What Series

The SDG “So What?” Series is a unique event series that creates the space to challenge our shared and diverse understandings of how to turn the 2030 Agenda into action. The series breaks down what words and paradigms mean in practice. Each event is co-hosted by the SDG Lab and a partner organization and explores two seemingly unrelated targets/goals are looked at through a common lens.

The 2030 Agenda underscores the fundamental importance of thinking, acting and investing in a horizontal way to ensure an effective and sustainable response for development as a whole. As knowledgeable as we, as the sustainable development community, are about the importance of a multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral approach, we don’t always know what this actually means when it comes to implementation. We must be cautious not to get lost in intellectual analysis on the linkages among different targets and instead focus on turning this integrated vision into action. This is what the SDG “So What” Series is about: how can we break down the complexity of inter-sectorality into actionable terms? How do we turn a vibrant narrative into directed action that supports countries? What are the existing practices that demonstrate the added-value of thinking, acting and investing in a horizontal way?

In this series, several unique voices will share their experience related to the intersection of two targets/goals and focus on what it means in terms of policy, implementation, and impact for development. This exchange will contribute to a more operational perspective on inter-sectoriality and, hopefully, open paths to new ways of thinking and partnering within the Geneva ecosystem and beyond.
