Sculptural Wire Weaving online class
About this event
Learn wire weaving techniques for sculpture without leaving the comfort of your home! This 5-session online class* will cover 3-part weaving and variations for making a wide variety of forms, from abstract sculpture to functional vessels. All levels are welcome; no previous sculpture or weaving experience required. Each class will include demos and time for individual check-ins with the instructor. After registration you'll receive a digital copy of the class info packet.
*Dates for the class are Wednesdays July 22nd through August 19th from 6:30pm-9pm EDT.
Required materials and tools:
- One spool of rebar tie wire (not short lengths!). Can be purchased at most hardware stores or ordered from Amazon.
- One 250-foot spool of 24-gauge galvanized steel wire. It must be 24-gauge! Can be found at many hardware stores, or from Lowe's.
- Heavy-duty needle-nose pliers
- Wire snips if your pliers don’t have them at the base
- Chipboard (or use the back of a drawing pad) to make spools
- Utility knife or box cutter and cutting mat (or other surface you can cut on) to cut out spools
- Optional: tight-fitting gloves and cornstarch
