Description

Known since Neolithic times, felt is humanity’s first textile. It has been clothing as well as a home, industrial filters and musical instrument dampers.Felt in contemporary sculpture is a medium that has a strong tactile allure.

Wool fibre can be felted by hand using agitation and soapy water, coaxing it into many intriguing sculptural shapes. Learn the fundamental techniques of how to make your own felt hollow forms using resists, model solid felt forms, and explore the wonderful realm of soft sculpture.

The tutor, Anita Larkin

Anita Larkin has been making sculpture and felt forms for over 24 years. Anita has a Bachelor of Visual Arts, Sydney College of the Arts (1993), and is represented by Defiance Gallery in Sydney. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, in exhibitions such as The Wynne Prize, The Blake Prize, The Tamworth Textile Triennial, Sculpture by the Sea, Sculptural Felt International, and The Beijing Biennial. Anita is currently a sessional lecturer at National Art School in sculpture, and has had her work included in many collections, including Wollongong Art Gallery, The National Textile Collection, and The Australian War Memorial Art Collection. www.anitalarkin.com

  • Your attendance may be digitally recorded through photographs, and images used to promote the gallery and its programs. By attending you agree to these terms. If you do not wish your image to be published, please notify staff before the event.
  • If you are unable to attend please cancel your tickets as soon as possible. This will enable others to participate in the programme.
  • Tickets are not transferable.

Cancellation/refund polices:

  • To receive a full refund (minus an admin fee of 10% of session cost), customers need to cancel their ticket or notify the gallery before 48 hours of the scheduled event. If less notice is given, a refund will not be issued. Refunds will not be given if you do not attend the event, are late or simply forget.
  • If you are eligible for a refund, this can take up to 7 working days to process after the event date (due to bank transfer times).
