Do I have to be based in the East Midlands or Yorkshire to take part?

Accepted Answer

No. The originators of Mix Up, Script East Midlands (ScriptEM) generally support writers based in their region, but also run events for writers across the UK. As long as you are based in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales, you can take part.

How experienced should playwrights be to take part?

All career stages welcome. The aim with Mix Up is to create a space for the kind of peer-to-peer support that you need, to help tackle professional barriers. If you have had many plays professionally produced, you are welcome. If you haven't had your work produced, you are also welcome.

How will the session work?

See below for the agenda. We are using the 'Open Space' method. In signing up, you can submit a topic for discussion. We will select 2-4 topics, which will form mini-rooms. At the session, you decide which mini-rooms you want to be in. After, we all come back to share our findings.

What will we get out of taking part?

Playwriting is lonely. Mix Up is a space to create support, to help us when things are hard. Times are tough. There is a wealth of knowledge out there, amongst our peers. Mix Up is designed to create the space for us to share, and learn, to support and be supported. To give each other a leg up.

I am neurodivergent/disabled. Can I take part?

Mix Up is for all. Whilst online discussion isn't ideal for everyone, it is the best way for us to break down geographic barriers, to help a large number of writers take part. If there is something we can do to support you to be at your best during Mix Up, let us know: script@scripteastmids.co.uk

What is the 'Open Space' method?

It is a technique for running sessions that gives participants ownership over areas of discussion, making the community responsible  for facilitating conversation, as well as coming up with solutions. Mini-rooms will be open spaces, moderated (but not run) by ScriptEM & playwright partners.
