Event description

Description

Join us on August 22nd for the Chicago screening of a brand-new film detailing the life and work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer - a German theologian, pastor, and activist who was executed for his resistance to the Nazi regime. A brief discussion with Matthew K. Jones M.A. and Jennifer M. McBride Ph.D will follow the screening. McBride is the President of the International Dietrich Bonhoeffer Society English Language Section. She is also the author of The Church for the World: A Theology of Public Witness (Oxford University Press, 2011), Radical Discipleship: A Liturgical Politics of the Gospel (Fortress Press, 2011), and co-editor of Bonhoeffer and King: Their Legacies and Import for Christian Social Thought (Fortress Press, 2010).

The film, Come Before Winter: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his companions in the dying gasps of the Third Reich, tells the story of the last days of Dietrich Bonhoeffer through the eyes of the British ''Black Propaganda'' radio broadcast team. It was directed by Kevin Ekvall, written by Hellmut Schlingensiepen, and produced by Gary Blount.
