About this event
WHERE: Scout Camp Wildflower Hike
WHEN: Friday, June 18, 2021; 9:00 am - 12:00pm
RATING: Moderately difficult; 2.2 mile loop
GUIDE: Marilynne Keyser (mtkeyser@gmail.com; 541-923-0558)
Although this hike is not long, it does involve a fairly steep 700 ft descent to the Deschutes River and a short, but serious climb over large rocks to compete the loop. The hike will focus on native plants so we will be stopping often to identify wildflowers. Fortunately, this loop trail is one of the most visually stunning hikes you'll find in Central Oregon, including views of the confluence of Whychus Creek with the Deschutes River. Standard hiking equipment includes sturdy boots, lunch, water, extra layer, and hiking poles.
Please be at the Scout Camp Trailhead, located at the end of Scout Camp Trail Road on Crooked River Ranch, ready to start the hike by 8:45 am. Service dogs only.
Bring your Guide to the Native Plants of the Deschutes Canyon Area. Guide books will be available for purchase before the hike ($10/FANs members; or $12/non-members, payable with cash or check). A plant checklist will be provided.
This is a free hike, limited to 6 participants and registration is required and available at www.fansofdeschutes.org one month prior to the hike date. If the hike is full, add your name to the waiting list by contacting fansofdeschutes@gmail.com. It is not unusual for folks to cancel as the day of the hike approaches. We will contact you if space develops.
