Keynote speakers announced

Professor Paul M Heerdt

We are delighted to welcome our friend and collaborator Paul M. Heerdt, Professor of Anesthesiology at Yale University School of Medicine. Former chair of the US Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists research committee, Paul is career anesthetist in background. Over the past 25+ years Paul’s laboratory and clinical research has focused on haemodynamic monitoring of right ventricular and pulmonary vascular function. At the Scottish Right Heart Symposium, Paul will ground his unparalleled understanding of cardiopulmonary physiology with ‘real-world’ clinical concepts in describing the plethora of information available when we ‘mine the RV pressure’ waveform at right-heart catheterisation.

Professor Margaret Maclean

A true leader in the field, Professor Margaret (Mandy) MacLean is Professor of Pulmonary Pharmacology at Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. Mandy is a council member of The Academy of Medical Sciences and holds countless award celebrating her contribution to research in Pulmonary Hypertension. In 2010 she received an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list for her services to science.

Mandy’s research has focused on the role of serotonin in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However, as more women get PAH than men, more recently her work has focused on sex effects and oestrogen metabolism in PAH, the topic we look forward to hearing her speak about at the Scottish Right Heart Symposium.
