Event description
Tender loving care for a valuable Tacoma, WA resource!

About this Event

Meet in Fred Meyer cafe (4505 S 19th St, Stevens St entrance, behind Starbucks) for pre-brief, indemnification forms and assignments. We provide bags, high-visibility vests, pickers & bottled water. Strongly encourage climate-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear & gloves, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and rain shell (this is, after all, the Pacific NW).

Our goal is removing "reasonable" litter from the trail. Paint will be available to cover graffiti (wear something unaffected by splatters). You are not required to capture sharps, walk on muddy or slippery surfaces or exert abnormal efforts to retrieve litter. A sharps container will be available.

We use found shopping carts to transport litter to trail exits; litter is hauled to Mullen St dump and carts returned to respective merchants. We identify unusual/large debris, homeless camps, damaged landscaping with photographs submitted to City of Tacoma and Washington State DOT.

Carpooling is recommended. Pierce Transit routes 2 & 57 stop at Stevens and S 19th Sts.

We discourage youthful enthusiasm and horseplay which lead to avoidable injuries. Washington State DOT, which owns the trail, restricts volunteers to 18 and older.

Additional questions and information available from Charles Mann via email chair@cnc-tacoma.com and voice/text 253.249.3579.

Thank you very much for your participation!
