Event description
Scott Miller, a son of Virginia who tells the stories of everyday people, returns to North Shore Point after more than a decade.

About this Event

Scott Miller sings songs written with a novelist's fine eye for telling detail, humor and tragedy. He will open the North Shore Point Backyard shows in 2020.

In Garden and Gun, Allison Glock wrote:

“Scott Miller tells stories better than most novelists. His intuitive lyrics hide universal heartbreak behind humor. His empathy is unsurpassed. He bestows dignity on dirt, elevates our pettiest concerns to poetry. He makes himself an everyman when he is anything but. A single listen reveals how Miller is exceptional, with a delivery so piercing and true you hardly notice how thoroughly you've been shot through. See him sing live once, and you'll never feel lonely again."

He left home to attend William & Mary. After graduating, he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, and formed the Viceroys, which was renamed The V-Roys to avoid confusion with an existing group. The V-Roys were the first act signed on Steve Earle's label, E-Squared Records.

After the V-Roys split up in 1999, Miller formed a new band, Scott Miller and the Commonwealth. His latest album, "Ladies Auxiliary," was produced by guitarist extraordinaire, Anne McCue. Miller's songs reflect his degrees in American History and Russian Studies, with references to his home, family, history, geography, writers and Appalachia.

In 2011 Miller returned to his family land in Virginia to take care of his aging parents, and to keep the farm alive. When he’s not farming, Miller is touring. Here is a short film about that move.
