Event Details

The Scituate FACTS Coalition wants to empower you with skills to reduce or prevent substance use in your own families or through your work with children. We have organized the content into a single afternoon for busy parents, caregivers, teachers, clergy and coaches - one Sunday per year! This year, we have changed the format to include teenagers!

The free program will begin with a special live stage performance by The Improbable Players. Running on E is an original play featuring four actors in long-term recovery from substance use disorder. The play is 45 minutes long and will be followed by a talkback and Q&A with the performers.

Following a brief intermission, participants will attend one breakout workshop. There are two options for teens to choose from, and three options for adults. Please register for the workshop of your choice in advance.

Free Childcare will be offered through Scituate Recreation for children ages 3 & up.
Children must be toilet trained.  Limited space is available.  Registration is required.

Schedule:

12:30 - 1:00pm Check in Open at Scituate Center for Performing Arts Lobby; Receive Summit Materials; Childcare Drop-off at the Scituate High School cafeteria. (SHS Student Volunteers may check in at volunteer table to receive their assignment.)

1:00pm Program Begins

1:00 - 2:30pm The Improbable Players present Running on E

This is an original play featuring four actors in long-term recovery from substance use disorder. Running on E follows a group of teenagers in their final year of high school. Each character has their own background and set of pressures. Between them, a wide range of experience is displayed: the very focused and stressed overachiever, the supportive and strong-willed friend, the reckless party kid, the joiner, and the bystander. This is a 45-minute long performance, followed by a talkback and Q&A with the performers.

Scenes in this play depict high school party culture. While this is not the norm in Scituate (many of our HS-aged youth are not using any substances), it is important to address the realities of risky behavior and consequences. Since you know your children best, please use your own discretion when deciding if this opportunity is appropriate for them. All themes will be resolved with factual information and help-seeking as part of the program.
