Event description

Description

Come join us for this year's final Science Speaks! book signing and presentation hosted by the Science Team of the NYC DOE STEM Department and the National Archives at NYC. Dr. Laura J. Snyder, a historian, philosopher, science writer, and professor at St. John’s University, will talk to us about her book The Philosophical Breakfast Club: Four Remarkable Friends Who Transformed Science and Changed the World. Dr. Snyder is the author of three books, and gave a wonderful talk on Eye of the Beholder: Johannes Vermeer, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, and the Reinvention of Seeing for us two years ago. Oliver Sacks called her “a masterly scholar and a powerful storyteller.” The Philosophical Breakfast Club was an official selection of the TED Book Club, a Scientific American Notable Book, and winner of the Royal Institution of Australia’s 2011 poll for “Best Science Book.” Dr. Synder's TED Talk on The Philosophical Breakfast Club has been viewed over one million times. All participants will receive a free copy of The Philosophical Breakfast Club: Four Remarkable Friends Who Transformed Science and Changed the World.
