SHOW is an ongoing seminar and networking series that highlights cutting edge, translational, life science research and development. This season of SHOW is focused on where and how today’s young scientists and clinicians are changing the face of life science innovation. You will hear from and meet with scientists and clinicians from all aspects of the life science space regarding how they apply their expertise and experience toward advancing research, commercialization, and healthcare.

For September" SHOW our panelist will share a little about their current position and responsibilities as well as talk about their career journey and their transition from their postdoc to their first position outside of academics.

This special SHOW For National Postdoc Appreciation Week Event will focus on PHD careers out side of Academics.

Please note for this event the additional location details below:

  • One Autumn street is on the corner of Longwood Ave and Autumn street just before the Riverway. 
  • If you are taking the MBTA, the Green Line D train’s Longwood stop is the closest. From there walk up Longwood toward the Riverway and cross Riverway. Autumn street is the right immediately after you cross over. 
  • If you are driving, have your GPS use 375 Longwood Avenue, Boston MA 02215, which is the parking garage directly across from Autumn Street 


lya Shestopalov PhD

lya  currently leads the cell analytics group within cellular process development at bluebird bio. His group's research focuses on development of cell-based phenotyping and functional assays for hematopoietic stem/progenitor and CAR-T products. Prior to joining bluebird bio in 2014, Dr. Shestopalov was a postdoctoral fellow with Len Zon at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard University working with zebrafish hematopoietic stem cells. Dr. Shestopalov received his PhD in 2010 from the Chemical Biology program at Stanford University and a BSci in Biological Chemistry from University of Chicago in 2004.

Susan Clugston PhD

Susan Clugston is currently a Principal Scientist in Lead Discovery at Goldfinch Bio focused on kidney disease. Prior to joining Goldfinch Bio, Susan worked in drug discovery across multiple therapeutics areas, focusing on kinase research at Pfizer’s Research Technology Center (RTC), antibacterial discovery at Cubist Pharmaceuticals, and antivirals and liver disease at Enanta Pharmaceuticals. Susan received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Waterloo, ON Canada, with a biochemistry focus, followed by postdoctoral studies in enzymology with Prof. Christopher T. Walsh at Harvard Medical School.

Julie (Szu Yu) Liao PhD

Julie is currently a Scientist II at Versatope Therapeutics which she joined in May of this year.  Before joining  Versatope, Julie was a postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Paula Watnick at Boston Children's Hospital and Havard Medical School.  JulierecievedherPHD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Binghamton University in 2009.

Shuji Sato, PhD

Shuji Sato, a native of Japan, spent his childhood in Maryland and France, prior to arriving in Massachusetts, where he pursued undergraduate studies in Biology at Brandeis University. After graduating in ‘95, he attended Tufts University where he earned a PhD in Molecular Biology and Microbiology. He honed his expertise in antibody engineering and phage display during his postdoctoral training at the Harvard Medical School’s New England Primate Research Center in Southborough. In 2008, he joined Cell Signaling Technology (CST) in Danvers as a Scientist in the Antibody Technologies research group, where he co-developed multiple innovative methods of antibody discovery, expression and engineering, while commuting by bicycle over 100 miles per week. In 2015, he was part of Bluefin Biomedicine, a  spin off of CST, where he led the Antibody Technologies group as an Associate Director. In 2016, Shuji decided to pursue his dream of traveling. During a 10 month period, he traveled through 12 countries while visiting friends and family. Shuji joined the Endogenous Antibody Discovery Group in Pfizer’s BioMedicine Design division in the fall of 2017 as a Principal Scientist. He is also an active community member at the Brickbottom Artists Building in Somerville.

Bryan MacDonald PhD

Bryan is currently a Project Team Leader, Research Scientist II at the Broad Institute. Before joining the Broad Bryan was a postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Xi He at Boston Children's Hospital where he worked on the Wnt signaling pathway.  Dr. MacDonald received his PhD in Human/Medical Genetics from the University of Michigan in 2004.

 Please join us for an amazing evening of the science entrepreneurship and networking. Event pre-registration is required with event sign-in beginning at 6:00 PM. Light food and refreshments will be provided.
