The IQhub & MI Ag in the Classroom presents…

SCIENCE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY
- Tuesday, December 10th from 8:00am – 2:00pm
- 1130 S. DeWitt Rd, St Johns, MI 48879
- FREE for Kindergarten to 12th Grade Educators
- Choose between K – 5th Grade or 6th – 12th Grade for the day (Each option will grant teachers 5 SCECHs)
- Lunch provided by the IQhub (If you have dietary restrictions, please bring your own lunch)

Please bring all your teacher information... It is REALLY important that you have your PIC number, so you can receive your SCECHs for the day.

Kindergarten – 5th Grade AGENDA:

8:00 – 10:30 Michigan Agriculture in the Classroom Educator Workshop (SCECHs = 2.5)

  • Source Search lesson from National Ag in the Classroom Matrix
    • ES-NCSS 3: People, Places, and Environments
    • ES-NCSS 7: Production, Distribution, and Consumption
  • Setting up ‘MyBinder’ and searching lessons on the National Ag in the Classroom website
    • Lessons are aligned to NGSS standards
  • My American Farm app: Lesson plans, Career Videos, Classroom games
    • Lessons and activities are aligned to NGSS and other curriculum standards

10:30 – 11:30 Lunch provided by the IQhub & IQhub Explore (If you have dietary restrictions, please bring your lunch)

11:30 – 12:30 “Field to Fitness” – Speech and Presentation by Emily Crambell and AgroLiquid Nutrition & Fitness Person (SCECHs = 1)

  • Discuss the importance of how healthy environments benefit human health
    • Aligned to NGSS standards

12:30 – 1:30 “Healthy Bodies and Environments” – Presentation and hands on workshop by Emily Crambell & Ernie Luttig (SCECHS = 1.5)

  • Increase awareness of healthy lifestyles impacted by positive environmental choices
    • ES-NCSS 3: People, Places, and Environments
    • ES-NCSS 7: Production, Distribution, and Consumption
    • ES-LS1: From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes
    • ES-PS3: Energy

1:30 – 2:00 Understanding the Shift in Science Education” – Lory Thayer, Mid-Michigan MiSTEM Region Director

  • Teachers will actively participate in the following professional learning topic of “Digging Deep: Understanding the 3-Dimensional Vision of the Framework”
    • The Michigan Science Standards are based on the Framework for K-5th Science Education and NGSS.

6th – 12th Grade AGENDA:

8:00 – 9:00 “How Important is Our Soil?” – Speech and Presentation by Emily Crambell & AgroLiquid Agronomist (SCECHs = 1)

  • Discuss the importance of how healthy environments benefit human health
    • Aligned to NGSS standards

9:00 – 10:00 “Improving Soil Quality through Vermicomposting” – Presentation and hands on workshop by Emily Crambell & Ernie Luttig (SCECHs = 1.5)

  • Increase awareness of healthy lifestyles impacted by positive environmental choices affecting soil health
    • MS-LS2: Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics
    • HS-LS2: Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics
    • MS-LS1: Matter and Energy in Organisms and Ecosystems
