Event description
Join us for a Science Fiction TV Dinner with Stargate SG-1, featuring special guests Sian Proctor and Stephen Pratt!

About this Event

A classic work of military science fiction TV, Stargate SG-1 plunges humans into a new cosmology shaped by stargates: devices that create wormholes, enabling near-instantaneous travel across vast distances of space. Far from being alone in a cold, silent universe, humans find themselves in a perilous cosmic order shaped by interspecies political intrigue, perplexingly deep mythology, and all manner of nonhuman intelligence, ranging from beneficent to indifferent to fanatically hostile—or simply predatory.

Join us for a conversation about space exploration, interspecies collaboration and conflict, artificial intelligence, resource depletion, and the menace of endless replication with Sian Proctor, an analog astronaut, science TV presenter on the Discovery Channel, PBS, and the Science Channel, and a professor of geoscience and sustainability at South Mountain Community College, and Stephen Pratt, a professor in ASU’s School of Life Sciences who studies the emergence of complex social behavior in leaderless, decentralized groups, particularly social insect colonies.

We’ll have dinner for the first 150 guests.

**Water Bottles**: To cut down on waste and make our events more environmentally friendly, we will no longer offer disposable plastic bottles. Instead, we will have water bottle filling stations available, so please bring your own reusable container! We also ask that you bring a resealable container (like a screw-top bottle, flask, or covered tumbler) to help us avoid spills.

Location: Need help finding the Interdisciplinary Science & Technology Building IV? Here's a map.

Parking and Public Transit: Parking can be challenging on ASU's Tempe campus. We recommend that you use the Metro Light Rail to travel to the event, disembarking at the University Drive and Rural Road station. You can also use the Valley Metro bus system. If you'd like to explore options for visitor parking on campus, please visit the ASU Parking and Transit website. The closest option is the Rural Road Parking Structure, just east of our venue.

Seating: Seating is first come, first served, and your RSVP does not guarantee a seat. So please arrive early, or at least on time!
