About this event
Welcome to the Science Barge, a living example of urban sustainability. It runs entirely off-the-grid and is fueled by solar panels, wind turbines and biodiesel. This floating environmental education center features two greenhouses which grow an abundance of fresh produce including tomatoes, peppers, okra, lettuce, kale, and cilantro. When you visit you’ll get a chance to experience how sustainability works in the city: How it can prevent pollution, clean your water, produce power, and help feed a community.
When you book a 1 hour time slot you will receive: a 30min tour of the Science Barge and understand our growing/energy systems, and 30mins of self discovery on the Barge, looking at displays, asking questions about plants or systems, or simply enjoying the view of the majestic Hudson River.
