Event description
Join us at our 1920s Speakeasy—an event for women with SCI or related disabilities. We'll be breaking down norms one activity at a time!

About this Event

Breaking the norm has always been cool. From new dance moves to groundbreaking art, voting no to prohibition and yes to women's rights, the 1920s was all about progression, fun and excitement.

In the same way, our 1920s themed Speakeasy is all about breaking the rules (within limits, of course!). Join us for a day filled with SCI BC friends and opportunities to try something new!

We welcome all self-identified women to participate.

Here's what you can expect for the day:

10:30 am - Registration

Sign in with our staff and receive a quick 5-minute 1920s "look" from the wonderful make-up artists of Blanche Macdonald: Canada's #1 Makeup, Fashion & Beauty School.

11:15 am - Program begins with Guest Speaker

12:00 pm - Lunch

1:00 pm - Choice Activity #1

2:00 pm - Choice Activity #2

3:00 pm - Event ends

Choice Activities:

Painting - created after the popular PaintNite's, join this activity and allow your imagination and the 1920s era to inspire you!

Wine-Tasting - yes, you read correctly! We'll be joined by Vancouver Urban Winery's in-house sommelier, Ashley, who will teach us a thing or two about BC wines. (Because prohibition was a thing of the past!)

Dance Lessons - no need to brush up on any dance skills because Fuse Wheelchair Dance will be teaching us some popular 1920s moves - swing dancing!

Special thank you to the Hamber Foundation for their generous support in making this event happen!
