Description

Ride on the Schuylkill River Trail from Norristown to Philadelphia and visit two historic cemeteries where Civil War notables, including Generals Hancock and Meade, are buried. Enjoy a unique mix of cycling and history on the second ride in our Schuylkill River Trail Bike Tour Series.

Two ride options make this a great event for riders of all experience levels! They include:

  • A 14-mile one-way ride with return shuttle from the Montgomery Cemetery in West Norriton (just outside of Norristown) to Laurel Hill Cemetery in East Falls. This one-way ride will include a shuttle for you and your bike back to your car in Montgomery Cemetery. Shuttle is $10 extra per person. If you do not pre-register for the shuttle but still wish to do the 14-mile ride, you must provide your own transportation back to your car.
  • A 28-mile ride round-trip ride from the Montgomery Cemetery in West Norriton to Laurel Hill Cemetery in East Falls and back.
  • There is also an option for non-riding friends and family who want to join a participant for lunch and tours of Laurel Hill Cemetery. Fee is $15 per person.

On the Cycles and Cemeteries Ride cyclists will discover two historic cemeteries:

  • The Montgomery Cemetery in West Norriton (just outside of Norristown) where four interpretive stations will be set up with information on two Civil War generals, Civil War nurses and the Grand Army of the Republic.
  • Laurel Hill Cemetery in East Falls where lunch will be served. A Civil War documentary video will be screened marking the 150th anniversary of the events of 1863 leading up to and following the Battle of Gettysburg. Guided and self-guided tours will take participants to the gravesites of the many notables featured in the video.

Fee is $35 before 9/5; $40 after 9/5. Optional shuttle back to car is $10 per person.

Price includes lunch. Complimentary pre-ride bicycle safety checks provided by Tri-County Bicycles. Register by September 5 to receive a free T-shirt! Registration after September 5 is $40, no free T-shirts.

Time: Check in starts at 8 a.m. at Montgomery Cemetery. Tours begin at 9 a.m. Rides depart at 10 a.m. Parking is at the cemetery.

Registration closes September 18 at 5 p.m. There will be no day of event registrations!

PA law requires participants under 12 to wear helmets. Participants over 12 are highly encouraged to wear a helmet. Due to the width of the trail, no bicycle trailers are permitted. Register early! Space is limited to 250 riders.
