Event description

Description

The Scottish Schools Piping and Drumming Trust and The National Piping Centre invite you to the second annual Piping and Drumming Forum and Workshop, designed for Piping and Drumming Instructors in Scotland.

Join us at The National Piping Centre and Theatre Royal for a day of workshops and forums to help develop your skills as a schools piping or drumming instructor. The aim of the event is to provide a platform for instructors and people interested in schools pipe band development to meet and collaborate on many different piping and drumming related topics.

There will be an introductory session at the The National Piping Centre followed by workshops and sessions at the Theatre Royal throughout the day.

Workshops on the day will include:

  • Focal Dystonia - Dr Newman, Consultant Neurologist, outlines causes and how the condition can be managed, with case studies.

  • Hearing Loss and Protection - Jono Heale, a former professional musician, discusses how the ear can be damaged and protection solutions.

  • Musculo-skeletal Disorders and Prevention - Patrice Berque, chartered physiotherapist and former professional musician, outlines some of the main disorders that affect musicians, and how to prevent and treat them.

  • Working With Mixed Ability Groups - Dr Rachel Drury, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, leads a session on practical and research based approaches to working with groups of mixed abilities.

  • Committees and Fundraising - members of successful band support committees and fundraisers offer advice and tips

  • SQA Assessment - Piping and Drumming SQA assessors offer guidance on how to prepare students for examination, followed by Q&A

  • Teaching Transitions - Piping and Drumming

  • Sibelius - a 90 minute workshop in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s IT suite, to be confirmed.

We anticipate that this will be a fascinating and insightful day of CPD for bagpiping and drumming instructors, and for those interested in developing schools-based piping and drumming programmes.

This event is organised by The National Piping Centre and The Scottish Schools Pipes and Drums Trust.

The day includes refreshments and a light lunch.
