Event description

Description

Joan Kelley, a researcher who has spent more than a decade working with schools across the country to improve literacy instruction and student outcomes, will present to the St. Joe's parent community/Parent Talk members on October 19th. Come hear about the types of skills children need to build up throughout the early years of life and schooling, in order to access middle and high school textbooks, and set themselves up for academic success. During the course of the 60-min talk, Joan will share the science behind reading acquisition, and present concrete ways parents can help their children all along the road to reading, starting at birth.

Joan (Harvard '84,'05) is a Needham resident whose three children went to Needham Public Schools. She is also the founder of the Parent Uptake Project, and pupreading.com.
