Event description
SNOM Annual Conference: Renew Ourselves, Reach the Voiceless, Reflect on our Practice

About this event

Join the School Nurse Organization of Minnesota (SNOM) at our annual conference to expand your nursing knowledge and to network with school nurse colleques from around the state.

Friday, November 5th, our conference will begin with an exciting presentation from Mr. Elliott Kunerth, Dr. Tammy Neiman, Dr. Laurie Sieve and Dr. Liesl Wolf. Through their presentation, participants will gain a better understanding of the needs of transgender and gender diverse students and the role nurses have in supporting them and their families. Ms. Jan Alswager will be joined by Ms. Deb Mehr and Ms. Jolie Holland to energize us to have a better understanding of the issues facing our profession at the local, state, and national levels and how we can be advocates for our profession. Dr. Daniel Christensen will describe the dangerous impact of disregard (the common denominator of all trauma) and recognize ways to give meaningful and powerful regard to ourselves and others. Dr. Tai Mendenhall will conclude our day with ways for nurses to begin to plan and implement empirically-proven strategies in self-care.

On Saturday, November 6th, the day will begin with our annual SNOM Board meeting. This will be followed by Dr. Brooke Moore who will review the ins and outs of vaping and how it affects the lungs. Ms. Delilah Robb will facilitate our understanding of Minnesota American Indian students and their families to improve their health, wellness, and well-being to promote academic success. Our final speaker of the conference, Ms. Carol Manchester, will help us discern the complex daily management skills and knowledge of technologies needed to optimize glycemic control and recognize that nurses are the key to health and safety for our students with diabetes.

Our annual awards luncheon will follow the conclusion of the conference on Saturday to recognize the School Nurse of the Year, School Nurse Administrator of the Year, scholarship recipients, and special recognition awards.

The SNOM annual conference is being jointly provided by School Nurse Organization of Minnesota and M Health Fairview ANCC Provider Unit.

M Health Fairview is an accredited provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Friday offers 6.5 ANCC contact hours and Saturday offers 4.25 ANCC contact hours. You must attend each full day to receive hours for that day.
