Description

Open to students in grades seven to twelve in public, private, charter, and homeschools.

An informal presentation on the art and science of classical dancing, this lecture/performance is a fun and accessible introduction to ballet. Members of the company will demonstrate and explain specific exercises that develop jumping, turning, partnering, lifting, and dancing on pointe. This hybrid lecture-performance includes a participation segment in which audience members will be invited to the stage to try some of the movements, or test the similarities between social dance and ballet. Throughout, excerpts from Dance Theatre of Harlem’s eclectic repertoire demonstrate how the elements that have been discussed come together to create the magic of dance.

Free; registration required

*Note: to reserve more than 100 seats, please return to this site and submit additional orders. For more information, contact Jon at rjginn@vt.edu.
