The Schomburg Center Junior Scholars and Urban Word NYC are proud to celebrate the release of American/Unknown, the debut book of poetry by Junior Scholar alum Nkosi Nkululeko. Described by Jericho Brown as "a beautiful book of surreal lines that cut into the heart,” American/Unknown is the first title by Nkululeko, who has completed the Callaloo, Watering Hole and Conscious Language Fellowships in creative writing and the dramatic arts. He is a member of the I Sell the Shadow Collective and has performed at the Women’s Deliver Conference as well as the United Nations.
Nkululeko is the recipient of a gold and silver keys for poetry from the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards, and he is currently in competition for the appointment of Urban Word NYC’s first National Youth Poet Laureate, culminating in the spring of 2017.
Join us for this wonderful occasion, highlighted by a reading by Nkululeko. The program will be followed by a signing. Books will be available for purchase in the Schomburg Shop.
