Description
In a culture that devalues and underfunds infrastructure maintenance, who is protecting today’s research data and publications?
Scholarly Communications Symposium (SCS) 2019 (https://libconf.uncg.edu/2019-symposium/sessions/) will explore the ways that the impacts of open digital scholarship are intertwined with and dependent on the infrastructure elements underlying such efforts. Without strong and persistent organizational and technical systems to undergird it, digital scholarship becomes a flash in the pan.
Are humanists, social scientists, scientists, librarians, and publishers today maintaining the necessary scaffolding to ensure that research findings are available, locatable, and persistent? What are the missing elements and frustration points in this system that we most need to address and solve? What are the practical steps that everyone involved in publishing and disseminating scholarship can take to help ensure the persistence and accuracy of our research outputs?
