Schoharie Creek Arbor Day Volunteer Tree Planting
Sat, April 29, 2017, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT
In collaboration with the Columbia-Greene Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District is kicking off Schoharie Watershed Month early for a volunteer tree and shrub planting along the Schoharie Creek near the Carr Road bridge off of Route 23A in Jewett, NY.
When: Saturday, April 29th, 2017
Where: Streamside along the Schoharie Creek (near the Carr Road bridge off of 23A in Jewett, NY)
Why plant trees along streams? There are many benefits to planting trees in the riparian (streamside) buffer area, including: improving water quality, reducing streambank erosion, increasing food and habitat for aquatic and terrestrial species, improving flood control, and providing stream shade and temperature control. This planting has been selected with a goal of improving trout habitat in this section of the Schoharie Creek. Come to the event and learn more about why it's important to plant native trees and shrubs along streams!
Refreshments will be provided by the Columbia-Greene Chapter of Trout Unlimited! Registered volunteers will receive a small native tree or shrub to take home for planting.
This Arbor Day planting on the Schoharie Creek is sponsored by the Columbia-Greene Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District / Catskill Streams Buffer Initiative, and NYS DEC Trees for Tribs Program in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.

Is this event rain or shine?
Yes, we will hold the event rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather conditions or a forecasted downpour, we may cancel the event and attendees will be e-mailed ahead of time.
Do I need to bring my own tools?
We will provide all of the tools needed for the planting.
Where should I park for the event?
On the day of the event, parking will be designated with signs alongside Carr Road.
