Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

What's a Curling Open House? Who is it for?

Have you watched curling in the Olympics and thought "That looks like fun!", wondered “What are they doing?” or said, “I bet I can do that!”? Well at the Schenectady Curling Club, we would like to answer your questions and show you how!

Our Open House is a great opportunity to experience curling first hand. And the best part is that it's FREE! Come with a group of friends, or sign-up by yourself. Participants age 6 and up are welcome to go out on the ice, but children and young adults under age 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

During your visit you’ll learn the basics, get introduced to some curling traditions and terminology, and then get right on the ice to throw some stones and sweep a few rocks. Hot beverages, water, and snacks will be provided. During the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon slots, our warm room bar will be open offering a selection of libations after you come off the ice.

When is the Open House?

Friday, October 6, 2017 from 7 PM to 10 PM

Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10 AM to 3 PM

What does it cost? Do I need to sign up in advance?

The Schenectady Curling Club Open House is FREE. Advance registration through Event Brite is encouraged. Advance registration for Friday night curling will end at 5:00 pm on Friday, Oct 6th. Advance registration for Saturday curling closes at 8:00 am on Saturday, October 7th. Walk-ins are welcome, but priority will be given to those who register in advance.

If you're planning on bringing children to the Open House, we recommend coming between 10:00 am and Noon on Saturday. But you are welcome to sign up for any time slot that works for your family's schedule.

What do I need to bring to the Open House?

Please bring an extra pair of clean athletic shoes to change into when you arrive at the club. It helps keep dirt and debris from the outside world off the ice. No flip flops or winter boots on the ice please. We will also have shoe cleaning stations available. Wear comfortable clothes that permit a good range of motion. It will be cool in the ice shed, typically around 40 F. We'll provide all necessary curling equipment.

To help with the registration process, please download, read, and bring a signed copy of our Participant Release Waiver . A separate waiver is needed for each person planning to go out on the ice.

What's the parking situation at the curling club?

Free parking is available on the North, East and South sides of our facility. There are doors to enter the warm room area on both the North and South sides of the building.

What else is there to know?

Every participant will be automatically registered to win free curling lessons or a one year curling membership. We will also be holding a "draw the button" contest for additional memberships and prizes.

Additional information about curling lessons, joining leagues, and participating in youth curling programs will be available at the Open House.
