Description

The JSSA (Jewish Social Service Agency) Training Institute presents:

Schema Therapy: Breaking Through with the Treatment Resistant Client

Presenter: Paul DelGrosso, LCSW-C, LICSW

DATE: TUESDAY, May 21, 2019

TIME: 9AM-12:30PM

COST: $65

TRAINING OVERVIEW:

Schema therapy is an innovative, integrative therapeutic approach, originally developed (by Dr. Jeffrey Young) as an expansion of traditional cognitive-behavioral treatments. Schema therapy is particularly well-suited for difficult, resistant clients with entrenched, chronic psychological disorders, including personality disorders (such as BPD and narcissism), eating disorders, intractable relationship problems, and criminal offenders. It is also effective for relapse prevention in depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. This workshop will provide an overview of schema therapy and its key components, including how to identify early maladaptive schemas and dysfunctional modes, how to explore with clients the origins of schemas and modes, how to identify one's own schemas, and how to apply schema therapy through case examples.

Learning objectives: At the conclusion of this psychopharmacology training, the participant will be able to:

1) Describe early maladaptive schemas and dysfunctional modes;
2) Explain the origins of schemas and modes;
3) Recognize one's own schemas through a group imagery exercise;
4) Discuss how to apply schema therapy through case examples.
