A NEO Developmental Reading
Friday May 3 at 3pm
Book and lyrics by Jason Grote
Music by Marisa Michelson
Music direction by Ian Axness
Directed by Seth Bockley
A deconstruction of The Arabian Nights, "Scheherazade" retells the famous stories of Scheherazade through a decidedly 21st-century lens. Tales of Alaeddin and Sindbad quickly give way to the stories of Borges and Flaubert, and the storytellers are consumed by the story as a traditional Orientalist fantasia turns into a modern-day love story of a Palestinian and a Jew in a post-9/11 New York. An adaptation of Jason Grote's award-winning play 1001 with original songs by Marisa Michelson.
