The Schaumburg Institute for Literacy Enrichment is committed to supporting and accelerating the language and literacy development of students in grades K - 8. Located on the Schaumburg campus of Roosevelt University, the Institute offers Saturday and summer courses that provide diverse learners with enriching and challenging opportunities to learn new skills and strategies, make friends, and deepen their commitment to reading and writing.
Winter Session: Jan. 25 – March 15, 2014
SILE 001: Accelerated Literacy
This Saturday class is for K – 6 students who already have demonstrated an above average ability to read with depth, commitment, and accuracy. Our accelerated program focuses on literature that is above current reading level, and organizes students to read, write, listen, and speak in collaboration with like-minded peers. Enrollment is limited to 20 students. The tuition for this course is $280.
Criteria for Accelerated Literacy Registration
To enroll in this class, students must submit a letter of recommendation from a current teacher or evidence they have scored in the top 20% on the reading section of an ISAT exam taken within the last two years. In the letter, the teacher should explain clearly why she or he believes the student will be able to succeed in a challenging and fast-paced environment for literacy learning. Parents also must complete the on-line registration and ensure that the information provided is current and accurate.
- Each class will be held on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (8:30 a.m. welcome on Saturday, January 25 only)
- Classes begin January 25, 2014 and end on March 15, 2014 (8 weeks).
- The deadline for registration is January 25, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

The teachers are all certified teachers who have at least two or more years of teaching experience and advanced degrees or certification in reading.
