About this event

  • Event lasts 42 days 2 hours

About the class - Students will: Explore in-depth scene work - get lots of reps, lots of personal feedback, and side coaching - to guide students into seeing all the wild possibilities of what they can do. The instructor will give specific, independent feedback for every student throughout class - helping students lean into what they love, learn how to approach skills that feel tough, and find their own comedic voice. While still having a fun, silly time with their classmates!

Explore long form improv - build core concepts that open the doors to doing whatever kind of long form (or short form, or both!) you like. Learn how different forms function, feel, how to have fun with them, and start learning how to break them apart.

This class will start giving you a foundation to make your own formats and shows, including skills for hosting- which will be expanded on in the following class.

This class will culminate in a class showcase, so you can invite your friends and family to see everything you've learned, live on stage!

At The Nova Comedy Collective, we call this an ORBIT CLASS - meaning it's perfect for participants who have a foundation of the basics, and are ready to build out your improv toolkit!

About the Instructor

Sam Hoar (they/them), has worked with hundreds of classes and improv teams, ranging from beginners to experts. They've been performing, directing, and teaching improv for over a decade. Sam loves using their experience and professional expertise teaching to help folks find their comedic voice, refine their art, and have fun doing silly, fulfilling things.

Sam also loves cats, DnD, and Dropout. Steve Carrell once shook Sam's hand and told them that they did a great job hosting a show, so that was pretty cool.

Sam loves creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment, where every student can feel comfortable. They care deeply about the success and enjoyment of each student - and they have a reputation in the Boston comedy community for fostering safe spaces and upholding the principle that good comedy is inclusive comedy.
