Share SCBWI-New Mexico: Online Illustrator Portfolio Class with Sergio Ruzzier

Event Details

New Mexico Illustrators! SCBWI-NM will be presenting a unique portfolio class and critique opportunity, online! Now members from across the state (and other local regions) can participate in an illustrator portfolio class, from the comfort of your own home or studio!

 

For the first time ever, we'll be doing an online video conference, with visiting illustrator Sergio Ruzzier — in two, 1.5-hour sessions.

 

Session One (Wednesday, April 10, 6-7:30pm MT):

  • Sergio Ruzzier will introduce himself and give a brief presentation of his work and process.
    Approx 6-6:45pm
  • Participants will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and some of their work to the group. *Be sure to choose one or two specific issues or challenges you've been facing, and would like to focus on for improvement.
    Approx 6:45-7:30pm
  • Participants will submit 5-10 portfolio pieces, digitally within 1 day following this session, which Mr. Ruzzier will review before Session Two.

 

Session Two (Wednesday, May 8, 6-7:30pm MT):

  • Mr. Ruzzier will discuss his critiques with the group. *Short written summarizations of Mr. Ruzzier's critiques will be delivered to each particpant at the conclusion of the event.
    Approx 6-7pm
  • Attendees will be encouraged to participant in the group critique discussion, with a Q&A period after critiques are complete. Have some Questions prepared, or take note of questions you think of during the critque period.
    Approx 7-7:30pm

 

REQUIREMENTS & INFO:

  • Events will take place via a private Google+ Hangout (invitation only)—Participants must have a G+ account, your own computer/tablet, etc., to participate.
  • Participants must have access to a high-speed internet connection. SCBWI-NM will not be responsible for participant's equipment failure or bad internet connection.
  • Participants are responsible for providing their own digital portfolio files (scans, photos, or original digital art):
    - 5 to 10 portfolio examples in one of these formats: .jpg .png .pdf
    - File Requirments: 72 dpi, 1000x1000 pixels (14" x14")
    - Maximum file size, each individual image: 1MB (max of 10MB for 10 images)
  • Maximum 10 participants – there are 10 of each ticket type available, but only a total of 10 people will be admitted, first come first serve! NM residents will be given a chance to register first (by invitation) until March 31st. On April 1st, registration will be opened to other local regions.
  • If a minimum of 8 particpants have not registered by April 8th, 6pm MT, the event will be canceled and fully refunded.
  • No refunds on cancelations after April 8th, 6pm MT
    *Please note you are registering for an event that will take place on TWO SEPARATE DAYS, please make sure you are available to attend both days.

Sergio Ruzzier was born in Milan, Italy, in 1966. He is an author and illustrator of children’s books and an editorial illustrator. From 1989 to 1993 he created a series of comic strips for Linus, the Italian comics magazine, and later for Lupo Alberto Magazine.

In 1995 he moved to New York City, from where he's been working for national and international magazines and book publishers.

His work has been awarded by American Illustration, The Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, The Society of Publication Designers, Parents’ Choice, etc.

SCBWI New Mexico

SCBWI-NM is part of the 18,000 member Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, with about 200 members in New Mexico and the El Paso area.  


Illustrators meet for critiques and schmoozes in Albuquerque on certain Saturdays or Wednesday evenings, with special events on other days. Check the e-lerts for announcements or contact Illustrator Coordinator Melinda Beavers at illustrators@scbwi-nm.org.

We have monthly schmoozes in Albuquerque, the second Tuesday of each month, from 7-8:30 at Alamosa Books, 8810 Holly Ave. NE, Suite D (NW corner of Paseo del Norte and Ventura, right next to Bahama Buck's).  Schmoozes feature short workshops or discussions, followed by social time. Workshop topics are announced through the e-lerts. (No schmooze in December or some months with special events.) SCBWI writers and illustrators also meet at an optional pre-schmooze dinner gathering from 5:30-6:45 at Flying Star (8000 Paseo del Norte NE, 87122; in the shopping complex at the SE corner of Wyoming & Paseo).  Contact schmooze@scbwi-nm.org for more information.

We also have an Albuquerque peer critique meeting on the third Saturday of the month, at a public library community room. Sessions are facilitated by an experienced writer and critique leader. Contact saturdaycritique@scbwi-nm.org for more information or check the e-lerts for announcements.

A Santa Fe critique group meets on the second Sunday of every month. Bring 5-6 copies for reading. Time will be shared equally. Contact SantaFeCritique@scbwi-nm.org for more information.
