Event description

Description

In recent years, awareness has grown about modern-day slavery, institutional discrimination and ideological hate crimes; and Christians have come forward to begin to respond to these injustices. Despite this, gender-based violence remains unaddressed in many places.

Yet it is an unspoken daily reality for thousands of people, across many cultures.

Join us as we spend an evening with Elaine Storkey, exploring what gender-based violence is, what it means, where it comes from, and why it’s important that Christians pay attention. This evening will challenge you, move you and inspire you.

A voluntary offering will be taken during the evening, with the proceeds split between the international Christian alliance, Restored, and the Nelson Trust, a charity providing support locally for vulnerable women with multiple and complex needs.

Copies of Elaine's book on the subject, Scars Across Humanity, published by SPCK, will be available to buy at the event.

This Redcliffe College event will be held in the Chapter House, in the Cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral. Admission is free of charge, but space is limited and a guestlist will be in operation, so please sign up today to register for this event. The evening will last two hours, including interactive content and a twenty-minute interval for refreshments. A voluntary offering will be taken during the evening, with the proceeds split between the international Christian alliance, Restored, and the Nelson Trust, a charity providing support locally for vulnerable women with multiple and complex needs.

Dr Elaine Storkey is a reknowned author, researcher, broadcaster, Christian speaker and activist. This year, she is contributing to Redcliffe’s Gender and Mission module, drawing on her research in the field of gender-based violence across cultures.
