Class description: The main goal is for children 5-13 years old (K-8) to advance their current Swedish language skills in speech, reading, and writing, and to gain a better understanding of Swedish geography, history and culture. Each class offers an opportunity to work on Swedish language skills, school work, and independent study. Children will be placed in different groups based on their age and language skills. Students should understand and speak Swedish upon enrollment. Please send a snack with your child.
Cost for children 6 years and older: $250 (We receive a stipend from the Swedish Skolverket for children 6 - 20 years old which means they were born between 1994 and 2009. (For the youngest children, they are eligible for the stipend if they were born anytime between january 1, 2009 and december 31, 2009 this year.)
Cost for children under 6 years old: $420 (Children under 6 years should be in the Swedish preschool program, but Kindergarten in the U.S. often starts at the age of 5, which means the Swedish preschool hours do not work with their Kindergarten schedule as they get out of school later and therefore these 5-year-olds need to be in the Swedish School program in the afternoon instead. We will allow children enrolled in Kindergarten to attend the Swedish School program, but since we do not receive a stipend for these children from Skolverket, they have to pay the preschool fee of $420 until they turn 6 years old, even if they turn 6 in the middle of that semester, since we cannot apply for their stipend until the following semester.
Note: Cancellations made less than 2 weeks before classes start can be issued a partial refund of 75 % of full class tuition. Once classes start, the fee is non-refundable.
Swedish Teachers: Monika Gustafsson, Jessica Christensen.
