Event description

Description

Funders want to scale up successful programs to accomplish greater social impact without sacrificing mission-based goals. But unlike commercial ventures or start-ups, nonprofits often struggle to finance their growth, especially without earned income and the challenges of government budget cuts and unreliable philanthropy. The Public Good will be sharing insights and techniques to help NFP and social enterprises that are considering scaling a program or project to meet changing needs. We will cover materials and share technical resources for organizations that are early in the process or at a sticking point and want to move forward. This session will emphasize strategies and best practices for creating financially sustainable options including: market research, the benefits of strategic partnerships, and key financial considerations. Participants should have demonstrated success with the program or project they are considering scaling, which can be in the early to growth stage of it’s life cycle. Participants should come to the session prepared to share their goals for scaling, bring 2 or 3 challenges they are facing in this process and a basic understanding of creating program budgets. The Public Good will share examples of our work in different scaling projects with NFPs, CBOs and their funders. Case studies will include what works, key considerations and risks to avoid. We will incorporate mini-break out discussions and peer-to-peer learning with each other to share ideas and resources. Participants should come prepared with examples, questions, and challenges to discuss.

Key Takeaways:

  • Identifying different scaling strategies for different goals
  • Understanding the value of strategic partners
  • Optimizing revenue for sustainable growth

This workshop will be presented by Tricia Davies of Public Good Consulting LLC
