Description

Open to all deposit paid incoming SCAD freshman, this unique sampler hosted at SCAD’s bucolic campus in the south of France, SCAD Lacoste will be packed with touring and excursions to local points of interest as well as workshops led by alumni, faculty and staff to help prepare students for the classroom. The program’s goal is to give a primer for their SCAD education, students will learn key strategies for a successful experience at SCAD as well as create friendships and bonds which will endure throughout the students’ career at SCAD.


REGISTER

Open to all incoming SCAD freshman. In order to participate in the Pre-Bee program students must have paid the $500 SCAD admission enrollment fee. Registration is handled on a first come, first served basis and space is limited; registration requires payment in full and is non-refundable. The Pre-Bee program is extra-curricular and not for academic credit. Scholarships cannot be applied. Questions will be directed to preebee@scad.edu.

The program is $1700 and includes: ground transportation in France, housing, all meals, international travel insurance, guided tours, excursions and workshops. Students have the option to book their flight on their own expense or have SCAD make the arrangements for a minimum charge of $1800.

TRAVEL

Students can elect to book their own travel to meet the group at the Marseille International Airport (MRS) by 12:00 pm (noon) on Friday, August 28 or pay a minimum charge of $1800 for SCAD to make the arrangements. Return flights can be scheduled for 10:30 am or later on Thursday, September 3 from the MRS airport. Since it is an overnight flight from the US, flights should be purchased to depart on Thursday, August 27 and land in France on Friday, August 28. By booking with SCAD, students departing from the US will be routed through Atlanta to meet as a group before flying to France.

Why should I consider attending? What is the benefit?

Students have the opportunity to visit the bucolic French country side at SCAD’s Lacoste campus. There they will work faculty and alumni who will guide them in workshops and excursions. The program is also designed for students to start to building relationships with fellow incoming freshman.

What is the cost?

The program is $1700. Students have the option to book their flight on their own or have SCAD make the arrangements for a minimum charge of $1800.

What is included?

The program fee includes: ground transportation in France, housing, all meals, international travel insurance, guided tours, excursions and workshops.

Will I earn college credit?

No. This program is not for academic credit.

Do you need to already have a passport to apply?

A passport is required to travel to Lacoste, but students may apply to the program before they have a current passport in hand. A copy of the passport will be required prior to departure.

Do I need a visa to go to Lacoste?

U.S. citizens are able to go to Lacoste with a passport. U.S. passports must be valid for six months after the return flight after the program is completed. What should I bring?

Students should bring clothes, sturdy walking shoes, swim wear, a towel, toiletries and a willingness to have fun and meet new people. A detailed packing list will be provided prior to departure.

What can I expect?

You can expect to meet other new students, visit SCAD’s campus in southern France, engage with faculty and alumni in workshops, take excursions through the Provence region and to start your university experience in a positive environment surrounded by supportive SCAD staff.

What are the workshops? What do I need to bring for this?

A series of workshops will be led by SCAD faculty and alumni who can give insight and success tips to help prepare students for university life. Students should bring writing utensils and a camera (the camera on your phone will work!) All other necessary materials will be provided.

Are family and guests welcome?

Unfortunately due do the limited accommodations and bus capacity we are not able to accommodate additional family members.

Where do they stay?

Students will reside in SCAD Lacoste’s student housing in the village of Lacoste. Housing units vary in occupancy, students should be prepared to reside and share bathrooms with other students of the same gender identity.

Can I use scholarships, financial aid or loans to cover the cost of the program?

No, the cost of the program must be paid out of pocket.

When is the balance due?

Upon application in Eventbrite.

How many students will be attending?

We can accommodate up to 60 students.

How does this affect my Summer Swarm or fall orientation?

The Pre-Bee program allows students to still attend the optional Summer Swarm orientation. All students are still required to attend fall orientation.
