Event Details

Pre-Bee is designed to set new SCAD students on the pathway to success by providing a cultural enrichment experience which will provide a positive classroom and extracurricular setting. Using the pastoral beauty of Provence and the artistic bounty of Paris - current students, faculty, staff and alumni will share first-year strategies for success and lead workshops and demonstrations. Open to all deposit paid incoming SCAD freshman, this unique sampler hosted at SCAD’s bucolic campus in the south of France, SCAD Lacoste will be packed with touring and excursions to local points of interest as well as foundations content to help prepare students for the classroom. Using skills developed on-site in Lacoste, the group will then head via the TGV (high speed train) for two days of sightseeing and instruction in Paris. 


Open to all incoming SCAD freshman. In order to participate in the Pre-Bee program students must have paid the $500 SCAD admission enrollment fee. Acceptance is handled on a first come, first served basis and space is limited; registration requires payment in full and is non-refundable. The Pre-Bee program is extra-curricular and not for academic credit. Scholarships cannot be applied. Questions will be directed to

Program fee includes: airfare*, ground transportation in France, housing, most meals, train travel to Paris, two nights in Paris hotel. Guided tours, excursions, workshops and supplies. This program is not for academic credit.

Air travel is handled by SCAD from any major US airport; additional fees may apply for non-domestic travel. Students will receive flight itineraries and are responsible for timely arrival at specified airports, tickets will not be re-issued by SCAD if student does not check-in properly or follow rules and regulations specified by the carrier airlines. SCAD is not responsible for luggage overage. Upgrades and preferred seating are not handled by SCAD staff; students may manipulate seating and class level independently once tickets are issued, please note that upgrades may not be available. Students should plan to participate in the duration of the program. 


Will I earn college credit?

No. This program is not for academic credit.

Do I need to have a passport to apply?

A passport is required to travel to Lacoste, but students may register for the program before they have a passport in hand. A copy of your valid passport will be required prior to departure.

Do I need a visa to go to Lacoste?

U.S. students are able to go to Lacoste with just a passport. U.S. passports must be valid for three months after the return flight once the program is completed. International students will need to research requirements for their country via the French Consulate.

What should I bring?

Students should bring warm-weather clothes, sturdy walking shoes, swimwear, a towel, toiletries and a willingness to have fun and meet new people. A detailed packing list will be provided prior to departure. 

What can I expect?

Students can expect to meet peers, visit the SCAD Lacoste location in southern France, tour sites in Paris and begin their university experience in a positive environment surrounded by supportive SCAD staff and alumni.

What are the workshops? What do I need to bring?

The workshops are designed to help prepare students for university life. Students should bring writing utensils and a camera. All other necessary materials will be provided.

Are family and guests welcome?

Unfortunately, due do the limited accommodations and bus capacity, we are not able to accommodate additional family members.

Where will I be staying?

In Lacoste, students will stay in the SCAD residence halls of the upper village. SCAD uses Hotel Latin in Paris, just steps away from Notre Dame. Both residences are used by SCAD study abroad students during the quarter.

Can I use scholarships, financial aid or loans to cover the cost of the program?

No, the cost of the program must be paid out of pocket.

When is the balance due?

The balance is due upon completing the application in Eventbrite.

How many students will be attending?

Pre-Bee can accommodate up to 30 students.

Can I book my own travel?

To ensure the safety and security of students, the SCAD study abroad department will book tickets that align with the group travel. See the itinerary for more information.
